Adam Curtis speaks to Jarvis Cocker about his new film 'HyperNormalisation'

An interesting interview

The award-winning documentarian Adam Curtis speaks to Jarvis Cocker to talk about his new BBC iPlayer film, HyperNormalisation.

HyperNormalisation tells the extraordinary story of how we got to this strange time of great uncertainty and confusion - where those who are supposed to be in power are paralysed - and have no idea what to do.

Curtis concludes that the retirement of politicians to deliver a new vision to the societies has transformed them into simple managers who, more and more often, have no clue on how to deal with chaotic situations. As a consequence, societies completely abandoned faith to politicians and turned to the cybernetic universe without, however, being able to create and pursue a new vision about a better world, by themselves.

Stein: war with Russia is not an option

'There was a ceasefire, which was very hard-won, and that ceasefire was destroyed by the action of the Americans bombing, apparently by mistake, although some people say not by mistake, but it was our bombing of the Syrian troops that destroyed that ceasefire'

After our call to independent media for a 'counter-debate' with the US third parties, the independent news network Democracy Now! made a first revolutionary step to break the US bipartisan debate monopoly.

Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! explains again the process, in this second presidential debate: “We spend the rest of today’s show airing excerpts of the Donald Trump-Hillary Clinton debate and give Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein a chance to respond to the same questions posed to the major-party candidates. Again, Dr. Stein and Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson were excluded from the debate under stringent rules set by the Commission on Presidential Debates, which is controlled by the Democratic and Republican parties. We invited both Stein and Johnson to join us on the program; only Stein took us up on the offer.

In this last part of the second debate, Jill Stein, again, was the only presidential candidate that told the whole truth to the American people without hesitation.

Concerning the Syrian mess and the Russian intervention, Hillary Clinton showed again why she is the most dangerous to be the next US president. She avoided again to admit the huge responsibility of the US intervention and their allies in Libya and the Middle East which created absolute chaos. She blamed again the Russians, although - as Jill Stein stated very correctly - it was the US that destroyed the hard-won ceasefire in Syria. Hillary showed again her absolute devotion to the neocon/neoliberal agenda, therefore, start a war with Russia. She showed again how dangerous she is.

On the contrary, Jill Stein stated very clearly that war with Russia is out of question.

Key points:

She [Hillary Clinton] has concurrently this Clinton Foundation business, where she is granting special favors, special partnerships, special government contracts, weapons deals, etc., to Clinton Foundation donors. So, there’s just a lot here that represents how the economic and political elite are very much represented, I think, by both of these candidates, and underscores why it’s really important for us to exercise our power in a democracy. We have a right to know who we can vote for, as well as a right to vote.

Syria is a disaster, and it’s a very complicated disaster. It is a civil war. It is a proxy war among many nations. It is a pipeline war also between Russia and the Gulf states, who are competing to run their pipelines with fracked gas into Europe across Syria. So, this is a very complicated situation, and there is a hornets’ nest, a real circular firing squad of alliances here that’s, you know, extremely, extremely complicated.

To present a no-fly zone here as a solution is extremely dangerous. A no-fly zone means we are going to war with Russia, because it means we will be shooting down planes in the sky in order to create this no-fly zone, which is where Russia has a commitment to defending the Assad government. So, remember, there was a ceasefire, which was very hard-won, and that ceasefire was destroyed by the action of the Americans bombing, apparently by mistake, although some people say not by mistake, but it was our bombing of the Syrian troops that destroyed that ceasefire.

We need to redouble our efforts here. And we need to acknowledge that war with Russia is not an option. There are 2,000 nuclear weapons on hair-trigger alert. And who was it that dropped out of the nuclear arms control? That was George Bush. That was our part, the U.S., in allowing the nuclear arms race to re-engage. Mikhail Gorbachev, the former premier of the Soviet Union, said last week that we are now at a more dangerous period regarding nuclear war than we have ever been. So, it’s really important for the warmongers in the Democratic and Republican parties to be cooling their jets now and for us to be moving forward towards a weapons embargo and a freeze on the funding of those countries that are continuing to fund terrorist enterprises.

Assange claims Clinton campaign tried to hack WikiLeaks

Julian Assange has claimed the Hillary Clinton campaign has attacked the servers being used by WikiLeaks. Despite the Ecuadorian embassy shutting down his internet until the US election is over, the website will continue publishing, according to Assange. “Everyday that you publish is a day that you have the initiative in the conflict,” Assange said via telephone at a conference in Argentina on Wednesday. The whistleblowing website has been releasing emails from Clinton’s campaign chair, John Podesta, on a daily basis since early October.

Assange claimed the release “whipped up a crazed hornet’s nest atmosphere in the Hillary Clinton campaign” leading them to attack WikiLeaks. “They attacked our servers and attempted hacking attacks and there is an amazing ongoing campaign where state documents were put in the UN and British courts to accuse me of being both a Russian spy and a pedophile,” he added.

Ecuador’s decision to shut down his internet was described by Assange as a “strategic position” so that its “policy of non-intervention can’t be misinterpreted by actors in the US and even domestically in Ecuador.” He said he was sympathetic with Ecuador, insisting they face the dilemma of having the US interfere with their elections next year if they appear to interfere with the US elections next month.

Britain joins biggest European military buildup since Cold War

Cold War 2.0

Britain is deploying troops, aircraft and armor in the biggest military buildup in Eastern Europe since the Cold War.

The deployment, which was first floated in the press by UK defense chiefs on Wednesday, appears to have been prepared well in advance.

It will see up to 800 armored infantry troops deployed to Estonia and Royal Air Force (RAF) fighter jets deployed to Romania in what appears to be a reiteration of the strategy of containment employed against the Soviet Union during the Cold War.

France and Denmark will also commit more troops.

On Wednesday, UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon struck a belligerent tone in the Wall Street Journal when he warned that Europe “is our continent” and, as such, would be defended.

While he claimed the force would be “defensive in nature” he pledged it would be “fully combat-capable.”

He denied the placement of small formations around the Baltic area are merely a “trip-wire” in case of the much-heralded, but hypothetical, clash with Russia.

This is a serious military presence,” he said.

Tensions have only just begun to subside after a fleet of Russian naval vessels bound for the Mediterranean Sea passed through the North Sea and English Channel.

The passage caused a press frenzy in the UK, framed as though Russia was launching an invasion of the British Isles. The Royal Navy deployed destroyers to, in Fallon’s words, “man-mark” the vessels while the RAF overflew the ships with fighter jets.

According to the Russian military, the naval group’s task was to “ensure a naval presence in operationally significant areas of the world’s oceans,” as well as “the safety of maritime navigation and other maritime economic activities” of Russia.

Britain’s deployment of troops, drones and aircraft is expected to begin in May 2018.

Meet one more third party candidate that the US banking/corporate fascism doesn't want you to know

Abby Martin - The Empire Files

With just weeks until the U.S. presidential election—and with both mainstream candidates embroiled in unprecedented scandal—Abby Martin interviews one of the progressive alternatives, socialist candidate Gloria La Riva.

La Riva is a long-time organizer in the anti-war and social justice movements, a union leader and much more.

In this election special, Abby Martin and Gloria La Riva discuss her plan to “seize” all U.S. banks, Hillary’s “feminism,” and why supporting the “lesser evil” out of fear of Trump is a losing strategy.

CETA: the banking/corporate dictatorship wins just after one day

Imagine the tons of blackmail exercised on Wallonian officials by the neoliberal lobbyists

The Belgian government has reached a deal with the Wallonia region on the free trade agreement between the European Union and Canada, according to Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel.

Michel said "an agreement" was found after a last minute round of negotiations with Belgium's French-speaking community who have been holding up the deal. Brussels has not released the details of the compromise.

The signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) was cancelled on Thursday after the deal was blocked by Wallonia's regional parliament.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was forced to cancel Thursday’s trip to Brussels as the negotiations had stalled.

Wallonia premier Paul Magnette said the region was not opposed to an EU trade deal with Canada. However, he insisted the secret arbitration scheme allowing corporations to sue governments had to be dropped from the agreement. Regional leaders in Wallonia voted 46 to 16 against CETA over fears of job losses due to cheaper farming and industrial imports.

CETA promises to eliminate tariffs on 98 percent of goods immediately after ratification and also encompasses regulatory cooperation, shipping, sustainable development and access to government tenders.

CETA’s supporters say the deal would yield billions in added trade through customs and tariff cuts and other measures facilitating business ties.

Opponents claim the trade deal will only benefit the wealthy and large corporations.

For CETA to be ratified, all 28 European Union countries have to agree the treaty. Until now, Belgium has been the main obstacle to the free trade deal.

"All parliaments are now able to approve by tomorrow at midnight. Important step for EU and Canada,” Michel tweeted.

How the banksters took over New York in 1975

We could say that the latest film of Adam Curtis, 'HyperNormalisation', is an update of some of his previous films, which is enriched with the most recent global events and developments. The new film presents also interesting stories about some key figures in the development of cybernetics and the modern perception of non-linear politics.

A special "chapter" is dedicated to an interesting story on how the banksters managed to take over New York back in 1975. This story is very important because it is focusing on the details of the rise of a new era in which the power of the banks and the financialized markets completely dominated over the political power until today.

In 1975, New York City was on the verge of collapse. For thirty years, the politicians who run the city had borrowed more and more money from the banks to pay for its growing services and welfare. But in the early 70s, the middle classes fled from the city and the taxes they paid disappeared with them. So, the banks lent the city even more. But then, they began to worry about the size of the growing debt and whether the city would ever be able to pay it back. And then, one day in 1975, the banks just stopped.

The city held its regular meeting to issue bonds in return for the loans, overseen by the city's financial controller. The banks were supposed to turn up at 11 a.m., but it soon became clear that none of them were going to appear. The meeting was rescheduled for 2 p.m. and the banks promised they would turn up.

What happened that day in New York, marked a radical shift in power. The banks insisted that in order to protect their loans, they should be allowed to take control of the city. The city appealed to the President, but he refused to help, so a new committee was set up to manage the city's finances. Out of nine members, eight of them were bankers.

It was the start of an extraordinary experiment where the financial institutions took power away from the politicians and started to run society themselves. The city had no other option. The bankers enforced what was called "austerity" on the city, insisting that thousands of teachers, policemen and firemen were sacked.

This was a new kind of politics. The old politicians believed that crises were solved through negotiations and deals. The bankers had a completely different view. They were just the representatives of something that couldn't be negotiated with: the logic of the market. To them, there was no alternative to this system. It should run society.

Today, we witness this "logic" in its most brutal form, especially concerning the European debt crisis. The destructive financialized capitalism increases inequality, poverty, unemployment, destroys welfare state, imposes austerity. In eurozone, the ECB dictatorship imposed brutal, neoliberal measures through financial coups. The example of Ireland is quite characteristic with the first silent coup there. The example of Greece is more obvious, as the ECB dictatorship was forced to reveal its true nature through an open financial coup in 2015, when the Greek Prime Minister decided a referendum so that the Greek people should decide on whether they would accept the brutal neoliberal measures.

However, these are signs that the banking mafia starts losing control, as more and more people understand that the free market "utopia" is a fairytale.

Financialized capitalism is about to end, but it seems that the system that will replace it, will be even worse. The economic elites are working to establish the global banking-corporate Feudalism, but more and more people appear to be informed about this new reality. The battle against this dark future will be continued.

A small victory against the transatlantic neofeudalism

CETA deal postponed thanks to Wallonia!

Belgium cannot sign a key EU trade deal with Canada, Prime Minister Charles Michel has said, because of objections led by its Wallonia region.

Mr Michel said talks with Wallonia and two other elected bodies had failed.

His comments appeared to dash hopes the Ceta deal could be signed on Thursday but European Council President Donald Tusk said it was still possible.

This is the EU's most ambitious free trade deal to date but Belgium needs its regions' approval to sign it.

[...]

Mr Michel said he had told Mr Tusk that Belgium could not sign Ceta (the acronym for the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement).

The other 27 EU governments want to sign the agreement, which has been in the pipeline for seven years.

The European Commission had set Belgium a Monday deadline to make its decision on the deal.

[...]

For the deal to pass, Belgium's federal, regional and community bodies (seven in all) must give their approval.

Wallonia, a staunchly socialist region of 3.6 million people, has led objections to the deal, demanding stronger safeguards on labour, environmental and consumer standards.

But at talks with Mr Martin on Monday, it emerged that two other bodies, Brussels and that of the French-speaking community, also opposed Ceta.

Στον "πάγο" και η CETA;

A short review on Adam Curtis new film 'HyperNormalisation'

by system failure

It's always a pleasure for someone to watch documentaries created by Adam Curtis, as they enlighten a less known dimension of global scale politics, society behaviour, culture, technology, ideas and ideologies.

We could say that the latest film of Adam Curtis, 'HyperNormalisation', is an update of some of his previous films, which is enriched with the most recent global events and developments. The new film presents also interesting stories about some key figures in the development of cybernetics and the modern perception of non-linear politics.

In one more film, Curtis masterfully connects the dots and manages to make us see and understand things from a different - and almost unknown to many - perspective. Yet, we observed also some 'gaps' in specific issues that the film describes. Always, of course, according to our humble opinion.

For example, the film describes how the Western powers, and especially the Agglo-American axis, have used the former Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, as a scapegoat for justifying their failures in various military interventions. They were treating Gaddafi, essentialy as a puppet that was playing various roles according to their goals.

Yet, the film ignores a more simple and cruel dimension of the final overthrow of Gaddafi and the destruction of Libya: the new colonialism exercised by the big corporations in the race for country's natural resources. A race that has been started by the French and in which the Agglo-Americans rushed to participate in order to secure a piece for their corporations.

In the case of Syria, Curtis explains the Russian intervention in terms of Surkov's non-linear war, and actually claims that it is not clear why the Russians finally intervened in the Syrian chaos. Again, it seems that he totally ignores the geopolitics of the region. The fact, for example, that the West wants to pull out the Russians from the Eastern Mediterranean, and therefore, remove their ally Bashar al-Assad and replace him with a favorable puppet regime.

Moreover, Curtis ignores the geopolitical dimension of the pipeline game, in which many powers are involved, like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and others. This is an important reason which explains to some extend the complexity of the Syrian war.

It's understandable that Curtis prefer to focus on the reasons of the increasing inability of politicians to deal with chaotic situations, but sometimes, other important reasons behind devastating wars, cannot be ignored.

Media silent as anti-corporate trade deal protests take Europe by storm

Over the weekend, thousands of protesters across multiple countries condemned impending trade deals promoted by governments and their corporate partners. Though the protests received little coverage from mainstream media, they stretched from Paris to Warsaw.

The demonstrations came amid the Commission on International Trade of the European Parliament’s plans to finalize the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) this week. The policy has been likened to so-called “free trade” deals pushed by President Barack Obama and other Western governments.

CETA, which has been in the works for seven years, would eliminate tariffs between Canada and European nations, which proponents argue would foster increased trade and create jobs. Nevertheless, the deal has been criticized for granting too much power to multinational corporations, the Guardian reports.

Though the European Commission recently drafted a statement claiming “environmental and health standards will not be diluted,” not all policymakers are convinced.

Passage of CETA hit a roadblock after the parliament of the Wallonia region of Belgium rejected it. Wallonia’s minister-president, Paul Magnette, vowed to block the entire country from ratifying the deal. This has proponents of CETA concerned about the agreement’s future, as all 28 member states of the European Union must unanimously agree on it before it can be further negotiated and ratified.

Venezuelan opposition leader caught with grenades, army vests

Venezuelan right-wing opposition has been repeatedly accused of trying to ignite violence in a bid to oust President Maduro’s socialist government.

Venezuelan right-wing councilman José Vicente García was apprehended Tuesday by the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service and caught with grenades and military uniforms in his car in the state of Tachira.

Tachira state Governor Jose Vielma Mora Gregorio confirmed on his Twitter account that the arrest took place and posted pictures of García along with the military equipment found in his car.

Intelligence bodies has captured young councilman José Vicente García with war weapons, grenades and vests,” Gregorio said in a tweet Tuesday morning.

The Venezuelan government has long accused the opposition of attempting to create chaos and unrest in the country in order to realize its objective of removing socialist President Nicolas Maduro.

According to reports, this was not the first time right-wing officials have been caught with militarized equipment. In late August, the country’s intelligence service detained Yon Goicochea who was found with explosive materials.

Back in September, the government said its security forces had managed to prevent violent actions and a coup that was planned by the right-wing opposition during the massive demonstrations on Sept. 1, which turned out to be peaceful and with little to no violence.

Clinton emails - Hillary had been seriously warned about the oncoming Syrian chaos back in 2011

On March 16, 2016 WikiLeaks launched a searchable archive for 30,322 emails & email attachments sent to and from Hillary Clinton's private email server while she was Secretary of State. The 50,547 pages of documents span from 30 June 2010 to 12 August 2014. 7,570 of the documents were sent by Hillary Clinton. The emails were made available in the form of thousands of PDFs by the US State Department as a result of a Freedom of Information Act request. The final PDFs were made available on February 29, 2016.

A letter from Clintons' top advisor Sidney Blumenthal to Hillary Clinton in mid-December 2011, proves that Clinton had been seriously warned, by, as it seems a highly reliable source, about the oncoming Syrian chaos. Blumenthal presents the views of his friend David Lesch, described as a "leading Syria expert in the US", during his contact with the then and current Syrian ambassador to UK, Sami Khiyami.

The conversation between the two men has been proved prophetic, as it seems that they both agree that the support of various opposition groups in Syria without discrimination could lead to a bloody civil war. Khiyami also pointed the dirty role of the Qataris in Syria and requested to be pressured to stop intervene.

Key parts from Lesch's report:

  • Returned from my trip to London yesterday. I met with the Syrian ambassador to UK, Sami Khiyami, [...] Sami is a very interesting person. He is secular Sunni, very straightforward and forthright (for a Syrian official), and not a member of the Be th party. He was pretty frank with me, and I got the impression he believes he and his government could be on their way out, so no harm in telling it like it is. He was critical of Bashar al-Asad, although he still supports him as the best alternative, and he was incredibly critical of, even dismissive, of the security services, who he essentially said were too stupid to do anything right.

  • I asked him if he could tell President Obama or Secretary Clinton one thing, what would it be? His response was interesting. He said that he would vigorously ask the US to stop supporting groups such as the Syrian National Council b/c they have very little legitimacy or popularity in Syria. He strongly recommended showing outward support for the serious and respected Syrian opposition elements in Syria itself ...

  • Sami said that it would not eliminate all of the opposition, since there are many wedded to the fall of the regime no matter what, but that it would draw enough support to isolate the radicals, who would whither away eventually, and create a critical mass to force the regime to follow through (especially with regional and international pressure holding its feet to the fire) and transition toward sharing power. Although it may be a bit self-serving, I happen to agree with him. The SNC and other opposition groups have very little if any traction inside Syria. Need to get guys like Kilo and Seif and the Local Coordination Committees in Syria on the same page with some sort of govt sanction, in combination with an end to violence. I think it is the only way this doesn't end up in a bloody civil war.

  • He also added one more request: get the Qataris to stop causing so much trouble in Syria in a way that is leading toward militarization of the crisis. He said he would make a formal request to Bashar for me to see him within the next month or so. Yale University Press has asked me to write a very quick 100-120 page book on Syria and the Arab spring and Bashar al-Asad, with the final draft due in April, so it is under this pretext that I would be going. Not holding my breath on this, although Bashar seems more willing to talk to people now.

Apparently, Hillary Clinton totally ignored these warnings. The US continued to arm various militant groups, many of them connected to radical extremists in Syria and Iraq.

Recall that, only recently, the United States finally took a clear position against Al-Nusra, in the context of the agreement with Russia, which, however, failed again, thanks to the hypocritical stance of the West which is interested only in two things: remove Assad at any cost and blame the Russians for all the mess and the humanitarian disaster in Syria.

No need to remind the role of Qatar and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East chaos. Recall that in another letter of the Podesta email series, John Podesta admitted that both Qatar and Saudi Arabia are helping ISIS. Podesta also mentioned that the US should exercise pressure to these countries in order to stop doing it: ... we need to use our diplomatic and more traditional intelligence assets to bring pressure on the governments of Qatar and Saudi Arabia, which are providing clandestine financial and logistic support to ISIL and other radical Sunni groups in the region.

Of course Hillary wouldn't do anything about this problem too, as in another letter of the Podesta email series, it was revealed that Bill Clinton was receiving "expensive gifts" from the Qataris!

More evidence about the contribution of the Obama administration and especially Hillary Clinton, on the Middle East chaos.

Ecuador admits to cutting internet access for WikiLeaks' Assange

The Ecuadorian government has confirmed suspicions that it has "temporarily restricted" the internet access of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

"The Government of Ecuador respects the principle of non-intervention in the internal affairs of other states. It does not interfere in external electoral processes, nor does it favor any particular candidate," reads a statement from the Ecuadorian government.

"Accordingly, Ecuador has exercised its sovereign right to temporarily restrict access to some of its private communications network within its Embassy in the United Kingdom. This temporary restriction does not prevent the WikiLeaks organization from carrying out its journalistic activities."

On Monday, WikiLeaks indicated that Julian Assange's internet link had been "intentionally severed by a state party" as part of an apparent effort to prevent the transparency organization from releasing emails related to the campaign of Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton. Hours later, WikiLeaks claimed that Ecuador was responsible.

Assange currently resides in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he has been granted asylum. WikiLeaks claimed that "multiple US sources tell us [US Secretary of State] John Kerry asked Ecuador to stop Assange from publishing Clinton docs during FARC peace negotiations."

Guantánamo’s most famous prisoner, held for 14 years without charge

Guantánamo’s most famous prisoner, Mohamedou Slahi, has been released after spending more than 14 years in the notorious detention center. Slahi, author of the 2015 bestselling book “Guantánamo Diary,” was returned to his native Mauritania on October 17.

Slahi, 45, was detained in Mauritania at the behest of the United States in 2001, and transferred to Guantánamo Bay in 2002. He had fought with al-Qaeda in Afghanistan in the early 1990s when the group was part of the anti-communist forces supported by the US government. He subsequently broke ties with the group, left Afghanistan, and worked for several years as an engineer in Germany, returning to Mauritania in 2001, according to the ACLU.

During the period covering the over-14 years of his detention, Slahi was never charged with any crime. He was accused of helping recruit terrorists for the 9/11 attacks and of plotting an attack on the Los Angeles airport, allegations for which his lawyers say there is scant evidence. Indeed, a federal judge ruled in 2010 that "there was no basis for the government’s contention that Mr. Slahi was part of al-Qaeda and thus ruled that he could not be detained indefinitely," an ACLU statement in 2015 explained. Slahi was finally cleared for release in July.

Margaret Thatcher named worst prime minister in 100 years

Margaret Thatcher has been named the worst Prime Minister of the last 100 years, closely beating fellow Conservative David Cameron in a new survey of leading historical writers.

The Historical Writers’ Association (HWA) asked its members to give their views on the last 19 Prime Ministers, in a survey released to mark Theresa May’s 100th day in office on 22 October.

Baroness Thatcher, who died in 2013, came first with 24% of the vote, closely followed by Mr Cameron (22%) and Neville Chamberlain (17%).

Tony Blair took 11% to leave him in fourth spot, while Gordon Brown and Sir Edward Heath were tied for fifth place with 8%.

[...]

She destroyed too many good things in society, and created too many bad ones, then left a social and moral vacuum in which the selfishly rich and unimaginatively fortunate could too easily destroy still more of what they don't need and can't see that everyone else does need,” said author Emma Darwin.

Stein: in times of great social upheaval, third parties occasionally prevail

'We, the people, were standing up and leading the charge towards the kinds of policies that we actually deserve. It’s important for us to lead with the politics of courage. The politics of fear, unfortunately, has delivered everything we were afraid of.'

In this third part of the second debate, Jill Stein showed again why she is a real alternative against the bipartisan establishment, especially when she referred to the key issue of the US healthcare system.

In the corresponding question, both Clinton and Trump avoided to take a clear position and give an idea of how will they deal with the currently ineffective healthcare system. Clinton tried to highlight the benefits of Obamacare, acknowledging though that it had some weaknesses, while Trump fully attacked it as totally ineffective, without however, presenting his plan for an effective and viable healthcare system.

On the contrary, Jill Stein spoke about the root of the problem, through real figures. As she pointed, a terrifying percentage of US citizens are effectively excluded from the healthcare system, as one out of every three Americans now cannot afford healthcare. Furthermore, a monstrous 25% of healthcare costs are spent on wasteful paper pushing, on CEO salaries, on advertising, etc., on exorbitant pharmaceutical costs.

So, you have immediately a key part of the solution. The healthcare system needs to be redirected to those who should truly serve: US citizens. Therefore, as Jill Stein pointed, “Under an improved Medicare-for-all system, that 25 percent overhead is reduced to about 1 percent, 1 to 2 percent overhead. So it enables us to put our healthcare dollars truly into healthcare, [...] It gets corporations off your back, and it gets CEOs out of the business of deciding and micromanaging your healthcare.

Neither Clinton nor Trump dared to mention that the healthcare system could function effectively, simply by removing lobbyists' interests for the benefit of ordinary people.

Finally, Jill Stein sent her message to the American people, stating that it's up to them to beat the establishment and its favorite policies. As she mentioned: “Abraham Lincoln was a third-party candidate, and that in times of great social upheaval, third parties occasionally prevail.

She also referred to the example of Richard Nixon, and how people through their struggles managed to beat some Nixon's bad policies: “I just want to underscore for people to remember what happened under Richard Nixon, one of the most terrible, regressive, oppressive presidents we’ve ever had, where we had the courage of our convictions. And under this terrible president, we achieved bringing the troops home from Vietnam, women’s right to choose, the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, protections for workers in the workplace, because we, the people, were standing up and leading the charge towards the kinds of policies that we actually deserve. It’s important for us to lead with the politics of courage. The politics of fear, unfortunately, has delivered everything we were afraid of.

Key points:

It’s not rocket science how to fix this disaster that the Affordable Care Act is. In fact, healthcare costs are skyrocketing. It’s now—you know, we pay essentially $3 trillion a year, is what the price tag is for healthcare, when you include government, business and out-of-pocket expenses. One out of every three Americans now cannot afford healthcare. Yes, the numbers of coverage have gone up, but there is massive underinsurance, and it is prohibitive.

Right now 25 percent of healthcare costs are spent on wasteful paper pushing, on CEO salaries, on advertising, etc., on exorbitant pharmaceutical costs like paying $400 for an EpiPen, which contains $1 worth of medication. This is the kind of abuse that is built into this program, because we do not have the capacity to negotiate and do bulk purchasing, which needs to be built in.

Under an improved Medicare-for-all system, that 25 percent overhead is reduced to about 1 percent, 1 to 2 percent overhead. So it enables us to put our healthcare dollars truly into healthcare, so that you are covered, head to toe, cradle to grave, your mental health, your pharmaceuticals, your hearing aid, your insulin pump, whatever, and your reproductive healthcare and your mental healthcare. And the healthcare decisions are between you and your doctor. It gets corporations off your back, and it gets CEOs out of the business of deciding and micromanaging your healthcare.

Donald Trump’s abusive behavior and abusive language towards women and everybody else is shameful and despicable [...] At the same time, it’s very important that we not lose sight, not allow this despicable incident here to overshadow the other issues that are very much at stake. Let’s just look, for example, at the condition of our youth and our younger generation, not only the sky-high rates of unemployment they’re facing, the incredible skyrocketing of the costs of college education, the fact that 43 million young people are locked into predatory student loan debt with no way out in the economy as it exists, with low-wage, part-time, temporary jobs having, you know, become available since the Wall Street crash. That recovery is pretty much limited to the upper 5 to 10 percent, a few little, you know, changes around the margins, but this hasn’t been a recovery for everyday people.

Hillary’s statement about the public views versus the private views, that’s certainly borne out by her history, where, you know, her public statement is that she is the friend to women and children, but, in fact, privately and her actual track record is to dismantle Aid to Families with Dependent Children, to have supported NAFTA and the offshoring of our jobs, to support the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

In Haiti, as secretary of state, Hillary Clinton led the charge to push down the abysmal poverty wages of the Haitian people from 60 cents an hour down to a shocking 40 cents an hour, so as to boost the profits of the American corporation. So, you know, and on Black Lives Matter, you know, there was lip service to the cause of racial justice. But the Democratic Party official position, revealed again in some leaked emails, was that, you know, pat them on the head, you know, meet with them, but don’t make any concessions to them, do not give them any ground, do not, in other words, acknowledge what a crisis situation this is, where African Americans are at risk, driving in their cars down the street, from police violence.

Abraham Lincoln was a third-party candidate, and that in times of great social upheaval, third parties occasionally prevail. And for so many people, the issue here is the politics of fear and the greater fear of Donald Trump that overrides everything else, including Hillary Clinton’s record creating the economic misery leading to the rise of Donald Trump. So I just want to underscore for people to remember what happened under Richard Nixon, one of the most terrible, regressive, oppressive presidents we’ve ever had, where we had the courage of our convictions.

Assange's internet link intentionally severed by state party

WikiLeaks has activated “contingency plans” after its co-founder’s internet service was intentionally cut off by a state actor, the media organization said in a tweet.

The internet is one of the few, if not only, available ways for Julian Assange, who has been locked up in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for more than four years, to maintain contact with the outside world.

[...]

Clinton’s campaign has made unsubstantiated claims that WikiLeaks is working with the Russian government to help defeat the Democrat in favor of Trump.

Last week the FBI reissued a statement saying it was working to “determine the accuracy, nature and scope” of cyber intrusions, but did not name any suspected perpetrators.

[...]

Earlier this month, it emerged that Hillary Clinton reportedly wanted to “drone” WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange when she was the US secretary of state.

According to True Pundit, Clinton and the State Department were under pressure to silence the whistleblower in the months before WikiLeaks dumped some 250,000 diplomatic cables from 1966 to 2010, dubbed CableGate.

Unidentified State Department sources claimed Clinton asked “can’t we just drone this guy?”.

RT accounts closure: Western propaganda mechanisms in panic

The Western propaganda mechanisms have been exposed severely after the decision for the closure of RT bank accounts by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

This was the worst decision that could be taken because it clearly demonstrates the panic of the West for the fact that the usual narratives of the Western propaganda are not effective to the most of the people. Therefore, the Russian 'invasion' through RT in millions of homes at the heart of the Western establishment, was growing rapidly, without serious resistance.

The panic confirmed by the fact that RBS later appeared to recall the decision. From RT :

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) appears to have backtracked from its earlier statement that the looming closure of RT accounts is not up for discussion. In a letter to RT, the bank said the situation is being reviewed and the bank is contacting the customer.

The e-mailed response began with apologies for the delay in the reply. “These decisions are not taken lightly. We are reviewing the situation and are contacting the customer to discuss this further. The bank accounts remain open and are still operative,” Sarah Hinton-Smith, Head of Corporate & Institutional, Commercial & Private Media at RBS Communications, wrote.

However, the response by Hinton-Smith contradicted an earlier statement by RBS Group, which said that the decision to suspend banking services to RT was final and not up for discussion

As pointed in previous article, “Putin had all the time to build his own mechanism against Western propaganda. Being himself a man who had come to power with the help of media, he built his own media network which includes, for example, the TV network Russia Today, according to the Western standards, and "invaded" in millions of homes in the Western countries using the English language, promoting however the Russian positions as counterweight to the Western propaganda monopoly.

The West has just confessed that the only way that could deal with the Russian offensive in the war of information, is the usual method of sanctions and closures of bank accounts, simply because the saturated, obsolete narratives of the Western propaganda are not working any more ...
