Water,
energy and a "Guantanamo" bill for prisons
by system
failure
In the
middle of the summer and world cup, the Greek government seeks to
pass bills to privatize public corporations in key sectors like water
and energy. After focusing on the world cup and the Greek football
team, mostly for distraction purposes, the mainstream media
propaganda is aligned with the government policies, as always.
Specifically,
a big battle is being held on the case of the Public Power
Corporation (PPC) privatization. Citizens and Unions, as well as the
main opposition Leftist party SYRIZA, react against the plans of the
government to privatize a part of PPC. There is no evidence that this
action will lower prices and protect national interest, while current
government is totally unreliable as it is more than obvious that the
only thing it does, is to follow Troika's orders.
PPT unions
are willing to fight against the decision with repeated strikes,
while government threatens that it will activate the measure of civil
conscription
(http://failedevolution.blogspot.gr/2013/05/middle-class-civil-war-in-greece-latest.html),
again. In this case, the mainstream media launched again the
pro-government propaganda, claiming, for example that unions' actions
will damage tourism. Once again, they try to mobilize social
automatism, turning groups of citizens, who will suffer from repeated
power cuts in the hottest days of the summer, against workers and
unions who fight to keep their jobs.
A small win
in another front, is the fact that the Hellenic Republic Asset
Development Fund (HRADF) will re-examine the case of privatizing the
Public Water Organization of Thessaloniki, but according to some
activists against water privatization, the government is just
examining other possible scenarios.
It is worth
to note that recently, the citizens of Thessaloniki gave a decisive
answer against government plans for the privatization of water, as
they voted by 98% not to be privatized.

It is
obvious that, as the government holds a very thin majority ready to
break, especially after the latest euro elections where SYRIZA won
and government coalition parties lost significant power, the local
and foreign oligarchs are pressing the puppet government to sell
quickly in ridiculously low prices, the key sectors under public
control.
Meanwhile,
not a single word has been said by the mainstream media about the
protests in Greek prisons by inmates who live under inhuman
conditions. According to the "Initiative for Prisoners' Rights",
a hunger strike is being held by 1200 inmates for eight days now, in
Korydallos prison (http://www.tokeli.gr/2014/07/blog-post.html).
The government is trying to pass a bill to impose unprecedented
conditions of "Guantanamo" type in Greek prisons. This is
another attempt, of course, to suppress any reaction inside and
outside prisons.
